It’s always amazed me how comfortable some people can be while they work in high-rise construction, or other “elevated” jobs.  Like mountain goats, they don’t seem fazed at all with the conditions or the never-ending potential for a sudden fall.

Unfortunately, no matter how comfy someone might be with the surroundings, the fact is, work at height  projects are invariably dangerous and the ongoing requirement of safety training is critically important.  New research from the Health And Safety Executive discovered that the majority of workplace accidents come from poorly or inadequately trained workers.

Andy Jennings, Health & Safety Training Manager at Eurosafe Solutions, a provider of safety training programs, said: “Workers who have not received sufficient training, or indeed, have not been trained at all, have been found to be the weakest link in cases of accidents at height. A building can have the best safety systems available, but if workers are not trained to use them correctly it could result in serious issues.”

So proper training must include the use of suggested safety devices, as well as practices, and the insistence on applying these lessons while working at height is vital, no matter how sure-footed your workforce may appear to be.
