OSHA Zeros In On Hazardous Chemical Facilites
OSHA is revamping a pilot program they initiated in 2009 called the Chemical Facility National Emphasis Program, in order to provide better coverage of the nation’s chemical manufacturing facilities. The results of the initial program found a number of safety related issues that caused serious injury and death and is looking to improve and maintain the safety standards that oversee the chemical industry.
Inspections will be made randomly and will be generated from a list of operations that are likely to have highly hazardous chemicals in quantities covered by the standard. The program will provide nationwide coverage and along with improving worker safety, OSHA also intends to protect the public against the likelihood of any dangerous spills or chemical accidents.
