OSHA Makes Changes To It’s Outreach Training Programs
We talk a good deal about OSHA compliance training and OSHA programs in general because they are so important to businesses today. If you follow the guidelines and policies covered in such training, the chances of your company or business running into problems is relatively low. Violations however are of great concern, and they should be because workers health and well-being are at stake. Recent crackdowns have shown that OSHA is not hesitant to levy monetary fines if necessary to improve compliance.
OSHA however isn’t simply and enforcement agency, although that’s part of what they do. They also provide comprehensive training programs which assist companies of all sizes.
The Outreach Training Program from OSHA is actually made up of a network of over 17,000 independent trainers who teach employers and workers about OSHA. This includes the 10 and 30 hour classes for construction and general industry and 16 hour classes for disaster site work.
One thing to note: OSHA has recently updated it’s policy on this training where it limits classes to 7.5 hours per day. Historically there has been no limits on how long these classes would run and OSHA believed this would sometimes reduce the effectiveness of the training. Now the 10 hour courses will be covered over a two day period and the 30 hour program will run at least 4 days. Unless an exception is granted prior to the classes, OSHA will not recognize any training program that falls outside this time limit.
It’s hoped that by reducing mental fatigue through long hours of class work that much of this training will be improved and the ultimate goal of workplace accident reduction will continue to move forward.
